I have been thoughtfully thinking over how to post this for a few days. I’m sure some of you have heard the news that The Christmas song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is being banned from certain radio stations. If you haven’t heard this, Lord bless you!!!
Why is it being banned? Because some people believe it is promoting rape. In the era of #metoo people’s ears are picking up on new “clues”.
Here’s thing this song was not written in our era. It was written in the 1940’s. A completely different era and if you listen to words they have a completely different meaning in that time. The woman in that song is trying to laughingly find a way to stay. She really doesn’t want to leave. She wants to stay. The gentleman didn’t put in anything in her drink. That was just a funny thing to say back then. Basically, she was a “good girl” about to a not so good thing.
Now, don’t get me wrong I’m not saying this is right. I’m just giving you the context of the time. Actually, this is one of my least favorite Christmas songs. I always thought the tune was boring and usually so stiff and ridiculous that I passed it by whenever I could but come on people!!! Not everything needs to be put under the microscope of today’s understanding. You need to remember the time frame that they were created in. That makes a difference!!!
The world is always changing and to continue to put our limited perspective to everything is very near sighted and has a way of creating chaos and on occasion getting things banned.
