Float Me Some Help

I know I’ve said it before but I love my job. I love the company I work for too. It’s a great place to learn and grow as a nurse and as a person. So it’s a mystery to me why our Float Team is almost nothing.

I was on the float team for 2 years prior to landing in Allergy and it was great. Yes, it was hard. Moving around to a new department everyday and never having your own place and a different routine every day can be trying but the manager is awesome! She supports her team really well. She is always in your corner and is willing to go that extra mile to help her people. Most managers won’t do that.

I know we have postings on our job site and indeed.com for positions but wow! nothing!!! So why am I bothering you lovely people with this? I just worked a shift where I gave 37 biologic and/or allergy shots (that’s a lot for us) and did all the extras for the roomed patients (like skin testing, Spirometry, etc….) That’s a lot for one person. I had a float to help but since the float team is so small he has been unable to train with us and didn’t know how to do anything for us except the rooming portion. He felt a little useless and I felt drained. So in the words of the Beach Boys “Help Me Rhonda, Help, Help Me Rhonda!!!” or what ever your name is. If you are a CMA, EMT, LPN or RN. Come look at Summit Medical Group of Oregon/BMC. We need help and trust me when I say it’s a great place to work.
