Today our country is celebrating our 250th year of independence. It’s amazing!!! We are still a young country in this world of ours but we love our beautiful land.
In reflecting on this anniversary, I was telling my children on how lucky we are to be related to a signer of the Declaration of Independence (Benjamin Rush).
Only 56 men in our colonies signed their names to this timeless document and at that time all of them knew if we didn’t gain our independence from England, they would die a traitors death. They were the bravest of the brave and I’m lucky enough to be a descendent of one of them.
Thankfully, we did win our independence and as a nation have thrived. Yes, we have struggled and made so many mistakes but we are still a young nation and hopefully we are learning from our mistakes.
As we celebrate today, we need to remember the sacrifices our forefathers fought and died for. They gave us a place of hope, happiness and choices but they also laid the path for more. They instilled in us the ability to fight for those who can’t. To wage battles both on our shores and on others so that, “what is right and decent” will win at all costs. It has been our “calling” for 250 years. We are nation set apart for a reason.
I am proud to be an American and I do love my country. I hope and pray to honor my God and country in everything I do. To live up to my ancestors and all they sacrificed for me and my family.
