F.I.N.E.

When I was a junior in high school, I began dating my oldest daughter’s father. It was not the best relationship. Lots of up’s and downs and well just not something I ever want any of my daughters to ever experience.

At one point in our relationship, Kevin, was hospitalized and when I went to visit him, his mother and he mentioned he was, “fine.” Both of them chuckled like idiots and when I raised my eyebrows at them both, I swiftly learned that “fine” stood for

Fucked up

Insecure

Neurotic

and

Emotional

Please pardon the language! When I heard them say this, I just about died. How could a parent and child know this and I laughed because it was so weird!

However, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve continued to hear this saying but it wasn’t till this last week that I learned it was from a movie. Does anyone out there know what movie it could be from?

I’m kind of curious if anyone knows.

  1. Not a movie, it’s from Louise Penny’s Three Pines books – instigated by the cranky old poet-in-residence, Ruth. I highly recommend starting with the first book, Still Life, and reading them all!
