One of my first blog posts two years ago was about this little thing called, The Skimm (I’m A Skimmer).
It’s an email based news source that takes the most important news from the previous day or from over the weekend and gives you the highlights with links included so you can go read up for yourself.
I loved it in the beginning. The highlights were given in an unbiased, matter of fact way and they fact checked their stuff. However, over the course of this, shall we say less than magical year, I’ve been less than impressed. I’ve noticed more biases coming out and slip ups when fact checking.
Today’s Skimm had so many errors and biases in it, I gave up reading it. It’s kind of depressing though. The news is something that we need to be factual and unbiased and we just cannot get that anymore. We have to be on our toes at all times and really critically think about what we are hearing or reading or else we will buy into anything.
