Our eldest daughter, Chanda, called me in February of 2020 and begged me to take her kitty Lyra for 2 months. Her current boyfriend was allergic and not a fan of her crazy kitty. She knew I loved cats and could never say no.
Of course there was the issue of her stepfathers’ allergy to cats but considering we already lived with one already, what could happen with living with one more?
Chaos! Lots and lots of chaos!!! I’ve had many cats over the years but Lyra takes the cake. She jumped on counters, attacked the vacuum, hit the windows to scare squirrels and sooooooo much more but in all that bundle she doesn’t like boys and bless my husbands heart he was going to win her over.
My daughters ask to keep her for 2 months turned into, well longer, and during that time Mike spent it making her like him. He picked her up whenever he could grab her and treated her like a little baby, bought her wet food and generally just loved her.
After a year of hard work, Lyra has been putty in his hands since. As you can guess Lyra still lives with us to this day. I am her “favorite” person in the house but as soon as she hears Mike come in the door or wake up in the morning, she will jump out of my lap and run to Mike for his loves and hugs.
His patience and persistence paid off. Lyra absolutely loves him and she won’t let anyone hold her the way my husband does. He has the “magic” touch and she loves it.
If you ever want I know what to look for in a husband, it’s a man who will willing take the time to win over not only your children but the love of a stubborn cat.
